An article from the Cathedral Times

Dean of the Cathedral of St. Philip

Whatever service you usually attend, and whoever you are , ,please join us this Sunday, December 13, at 10 a.m., in Child Hall, for the Annual Parish Meeting of the Cathedral of St. Philip. At this meeting, all members, all associate members, friends, and visitors, gather together for common celebration and rejoicing. Like last year, we will meet in Child Hall this year, during the regular Education Hour.

Despite the financial challenges of this past year, there is actually much to celebrate. I will preach at 8:45 and 11:15 on what it means to rejoice (see Philippians 4:4-9); and my report at the annual meeting will further emphasize our stewardship theme of "joy and wonder."  I will also speak briefly on wider trends across The Episcopal Church, especially regarding membership and giving. The Cathedral of St. Philip fares very well compared to other places; and I am eager for our holy community to continue its service of leadership and grace to the wide Episcopal Church and to the entire Anglican Communion.

We will also vote on the slate of Chapter nominees and Junior Warden. What an excellent group has been proposed by the Nominating Committee!  (see inside for this year's slate). As usual, we will distribute the Annual Report, with its complete review of the 2009 year, and we will also hear reviews of our financial situation and hopes for the 2010 pledge season. While respecting our economy and our stewardship, the Cathedral of St. Philip has great reason to rejoice at this year's meeting. Most of our programs are in excellent health, and our music program is enjoying the new ministry of Dale Adelmann. Join us on Sunday morning to hear more!

Again, this year, we will follow our usual morning schedule of worship services in the Cathedral and Mikell Chapel. However, no adult classes will meet during the annual parish meeting! Classes for children are scheduled as usual.

Blessings and grace to all who participate in the mission and ministry of this beautiful and sacred place. This year, more than ever, the world needs the Cathedral of St. Philip! And we are responding!
