Each year the Continuum of Care, a coalition of organizations working to end homelessness in Atlanta, spearheads a Point-In-Time Homeless Count. This survey of people who are homeless is crucial for tracking the success of local programs to end homelessness and essential for planning future efforts.
This year, the Cathedral community will lend support to this important work and we need volunteers to work with a team leader and other volunteers on the night of Monday, January 22. Our job will be to survey the unsheltered homeless who are sleeping outdoors on sidewalks, in parks and encampments, and under bridges. We will collect demographic characteristics, homeless experiences and history, and other information that is vital for meeting federal requirements, attracting philanthropic investors, and tracking the success of local efforts to end homelessness in metro Atlanta. The data collected will also help the Continuum of Care in its planning for effective housing and service interventions to prevent and end homelessness in the area.
