The Cathedral of St. Philip - Atlanta, GA

2018 Spirituality Conference

Featuring the Rev. Becca Stevens

Saturday, November 3, 2018

We are excited to announce that the speaker for our 10th annual Spirituality Conference is the Rev. Becca Stevens, whose life and work illustrate the healing power of love and of story.

Becca Stevens is an author, speaker, priest, social entrepreneur, and founder and president of Thistle Farms. After experiencing the death of her father and subsequent child abuse when she was five , Becca longed to open a sanctuary for survivors offering a loving community. In 1997, five women who had experienced trafficking, violence, and addiction were welcomed home. Twenty years later, the organization continues to welcome women with free residences that provide housing, medical care, therapy, and education for two years. Residents and graduates earn income through one of four social enterprises. Thistle Farms' global market helps employ more than 1,800 women worldwide, and the national network has more than 40 sister communities.Becca has been featured in The New York Times, on ABC World News and NPR, and was recently named a 2016 CNN Hero and a White House "Champion of Change," among other honors.

Becca is a prolific writer, and we believe that her books can inform our spiritual practices as well as our work for justice. For example, in Hither and Yon: A Travel Guide for the Spiritual Journey, she describes a mysterious place of communion with God. It is the destination to which we are headed and the circuitous path itself. For the trip, there are some things we should pack and some things we should leave behind. We are already on the journey. This book is written to encourage all of us to keep walking. Sanctuary: Unexpected Places where God Found Me is a meditation on the everyday places of life where God can be found. Readers will find comfort and inspiration in the various places and spaces described. This book features poetry as well as meditations.

More information about the content of the presentation is coming soon!

This day-long conference will include lectures, discussion, question & answer, and book signing.

The cost is $65/person and includes lunch (group rate is $60/person for groups of 5 or more; week-of registration is $70/person).

Registration will open later this summer.
