I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. -- Psalm 104:33

The Cathedral choir is very excited to be planning another pilgrimage to England! If you’ve followed our blog in the past, you know how meaningful these tours are to us. They offer an opportunity to share our voices in the context of the service of Evensong each day.

Fundraisers help members who might not otherwise be able to participate in the choir’s pilgrimage to England. For two weeks in the summer of 2017, the choir will be lifting their voices as choir-in-residence to Salisbury and Durham Cathedrals in daily choral services. As church musicians, we are honored to help lead our worship and hope that you are inspired to connect with the divine every time we raise our voices together in praise and prayer.

Salisbury Cathedral, completed in 1258 A.D. and formally known as the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is a leading example of Early English architecture.

The main body of the cathedral was completed in only 38 years, from 1220 to 1258. It has the tallest church spire in the United Kingdom, at 404 feet. It has the largest cloister and the largest cathedral close in Britain, at 80 acres. It contains the world's oldest working clock (from AD 1386). It has the best surviving of the four original copies of Magna Carta.

Durham Cathedral, completed in 1133 A.D. and more formally known as the Cathedral Church of Christ, Blessed Mary the Virgin and St. Cuthbert of Durham, has been voted Britain’s Favorite Building several times in BBC polls.

It is a Norman building constructed between 1093 and 1133 in the Romanesque style, a total of 40 years. It was founded as a monastic cathedral built to house the shrine of St. Cuthbert, the 7th Century bishop of Lindisfarne (Holy Island). It is home to the fourth most powerful position in the Church of England, the Bishop of Durham. It was the first cathedral in Europe to be roofed with stone-ribbed vaulting, and the traverse arches were the first of their kind to be built in Britain. The Galilee chapel, built in 1175, contains the tomb of the Venerable Bede and rare twelfth-century religious murals. It boasts a huge slab of stone called the Frosterley Marble which dates back 310 million years.

We do plan to create a blog again to share our first hand experiences with you. These significant cathedrals are sure to offer us plenty of material!

We appreciate so very much your support and we look forward to sharing our experiences with you as we sing our way through our pilgrimage!
