Youth Ministries

Soup-er Bowl Sunday!

It's time for the SOUP-er Bowl! Help Cathedral youth gather goods and monetary donations for Buckhead Christian Ministry on Sunday, February 4. We will be collecting items before the 8:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services at the top of the ramp in between Child Hall and the Court of Gratitude. Help predict the winner of the Patriots vs. Eagles Super Bowl game by placing your donations in the appropriately marked bins. We have correctly predicted the winner for the majority of the past thirteen years! Some helpful items are canned tuna or chicken, canned spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, oatmeal or grits, soup, jam or jelly, and hygiene items. For more information, contact Maggie Paul, mpaul@stphilipscathedral.org or 404-365-1080.

Rock the Universe

Join the youth on a wild ride! We are going to Rock the Universe at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida! Explore the sights at Universal while also enjoying concerts by Casting Crowns, for King & Country, Brandon Heath, Family Force 5, and more! We will drive down during the day, party all night, and sleep the whole way home, as we get to know each other and continue to build and invest in our Episcopal Youth Community at the Cathedral! Rock the Universe is September 9-10.

Upcoming Weekend Trips

Middle school youth will be going on their zipline trip to Ducktown, Tennessee this Saturday and Sunday, August 5-6. In addition to ziplining, they will also get to swim in some light rapids along the Ocoee River.
High school youth will be going on their rafting trip Saturday and Sunday, August 19-20, in Ducktown, Tennessee. They will also have the chance to zipline around the Ocoee River.
To register or for more information about these trips and the rest of the exciting adventures we have planned for this year, contact Meg Jones, mjones@stphilipscathedral.org.

Reimagining Charity and Service

Our adult series will explore the concepts of charity, service, and poverty; consider new paradigms relating to charity; and invite reflection on our own practices relating to these areas: what seems to be working, what doesn’t, and where do we go from here? The series will be led by Canon Cathy Zappa and others, with a special presentation on March 19 by Shawn Duncan. Shawn is a teacher, preacher, and community organizer, and is the director of training and education at Focused Community Strategies (FCS), an organization with almost 40 years of experience transforming underserved neighborhoods in Atlanta.

Hunger Walk 2017

This Sunday, March 5, Cathedral youth will attend the Hunger Walk, which benefits the Atlanta Community Food Bank. We will be joining youth from around the Diocese of Atlanta. Last year, there were 300 youth from around the Diocese! We will meet at the Cathedral at 1 p.m. to carpool down to the Walk, which begins at 2 p.m. at Turner Field. After the Walk, we will come back to the Cathedral and share dinner together from 5:30-6 p.m. To sign-up to go the Hunger Walk, go to stphilipscathedral.org/youth and click on the link for Upcoming Opportunities. After you submit the form, you’ll be redirected to the EYCDIOATL team – make sure you register there too!

The full cost is $400, which includes two day lift tickets, rentals, lessons, lodging, transportation, meals, and a t-shirt. You can secure your space by making a $100 deposit as soon as possible. The total cost is $400. All payments are due by Friday, January 6. Register at stphilipscathedral.org/youth.

Help Out with the Youth!

Cathedral youth ministry is looking for new adult volunteers! Men and women of all ages are invited to help us grow in our faith through fellowship and fun. There are opportunities for everyone including driving, chaperoning, teaching, and praying. Help out in our classes on Sunday mornings, or with EYC on Sunday evenings. Having a strong youth leadership team means that you do not have to make a big time commitment, but you are sure to have fun! Contact Maggie Paul, or 404-365-1080, for more information.

Walk the Road at Emmaus House

Calling all Cathedral youth to join participants from Atlanta and beyond for the opportunity to contribute time, talent, and treasure to D. H. Stanton Elementary School, the neighborhood school in Peoplestown near downtown Atlanta. Youth will gather at 2 p.m. this Sunday, September 25 at the Cathedral to take MARTA to Peoplestown, where we will meet others in the diocese to volunteer at the school and learn more about the people Emmaus House serves. The evening will close with dinner and prayer over the service projects. We ask that each youth bring five canned goods. All items collected will go to one of our service partners of the day! The cost per participant is $10, which covers dinner. Come join us as we make new friends and serve our neighbors. If you are interested or have questions, let Meg, Jacob or Maggie know.

Hunger Walk 2016

Youth from the Cathedral will be joining others from around the diocese and city to participate in the Hunger Walk, Sunday, March 13. “The Hunger Walk generates valuable funds for the Atlanta Community Food Bank and other local nonprofit organizations that operate and support food pantries, community kitchens, shelters and other programs for people in need of food assistance.” Youth in grades 6–12 will leave the Cathedral together at 11:30 a.m. and head down to Turner Field. Registration is $25.
