Diocesan Pilgrimage

A pilgrimage-study week in Avila, Spain, based on the life and writings of St. John of the Cross, will be led by the Rev. Isaías Rodríguez, the Diocese of Atlanta’s canon for Hispanic ministries. From October 22-31, pilgrims will be based at the Carmelite International Center of Teresian and Sanjaunistic Studies in Avila. Visits to holy places in the lives of St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila are planned. To obtain a brochure and for more information, contact Canon Rodriguez, or 404-707-1217

A Taste of Latin America 2017

Every year the Diocesan Hispanic Ministry Commission sponsors a special dinner called A Taste of Latin America, and it is a real fiesta! Hispanic members from several parishes will bring tasty Latin American food to share with guests at the special potluck meal. There will be music and dancing, craft items for sale, a raffle, and a silent auction - plus a piñata for the children, of course! This year’s dinner will be on Saturday, October 7, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. in Child Hall. Reservations and tickets are not required; after dinner, sombreros will be passed for donations. The funds from this year’s event will be used to help hurricane and earthquake victims in Latin America and the Caribbean. Friends and family members of all ages are welcome. Mark your calendar and plan to come!

Opportunity To Attend Camp This Summer

This summer the Cathedral children’s program is sending ten rising sixth graders to Camp Mikell for a week. The idea is to build relationships in our various communities of children. The camp is funded through a special scholarship and six students will come from our Godly Play program or from the Cathedral’s Hispanic community, and the other four will be students in our La Amistad program. We are looking for children who will be great ambassadors of the Cathedral, embodying our values of grace, excellence and hospitality.

Taste of Latin America was a Success!

Recently the Diocesan Hispanic Ministry sponsored its annual Taste of Latin America dinner in Child Hall. Along with a shared potluck supper prepared by Hispanic parishioners, there was music, dancing, raffle prizes and a piñata! After dinner, donations for humanitarian projects in Latin America were collected by “passing the hat.” Over $2,100 will soon be on the way to help orphaned children in Bolivia and Mexico, small farmers coping with a drought in Nicaragua, and victims of the earthquake in Ecuador. Shared time, shared food, and shared money have become loving assistance for people who are suffering and struggling in difficult situations.
