AARP is once again offering its Smart Driver course at the Cathedral, Thursday, May 17. The course is a six-hour refresher aimed at motorists 50 years old and older. Some of the objectives of the class include understanding the effects of aging on driving; learning driving strategies that take into account the changes we experience as we age; and a number of other topics designed to make you a safer driver. At the completion of the class, you may be eligible to receive a discount on your automobile insurance policy.

End of Life Decisions

The Cathedral’s pastoral care team will present a two-week session on “End of Life Decisions: Preparations for the Final Celebration of Life” on two Sunday mornings, May 7 and 14, at 10:10 a.m. in Walthour Library. Led by Canon Carolynne Williams and attorney Richard Perry, the class will look at issues relating to death and dying, funeral planning and financial planning. Understanding Medicare

If you have Medicare, will be aging in to Medicare in the coming year, or are responsible for a family member on Medicare, join parishioner Betsy Elliot for a one-hour review of Medicare on Monday, March 20 at either 10 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. in the Gould Room. In this class you will learn what Medicare covers, options available to Medicare enrollees including Medicare Advantage, prescription drug plans, and supplement plans (often referred to as Medigap). We will review questions to ask when deciding how to coordinate your healthcare coverage. This class is open to the public. The Cathedral’s Elder Ministry will offer an AARP Smart Driver class on Thursday, February 25. The course is a six-hour refresher for motorists age 50 and older, with updated materials and videos. Some of the objectives of the class include understanding the effects of aging on driving, learning driving strategies that take into account the changes we experience as we age, and identifying when driving may no longer be safe. At the completion of the class you may be eligible to receive a discount on your automobile insurance. The class runs from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members, and you can pay by cash or check at the door. Lunch will not be provided, but feel free to bring a bag lunch. Sign up by contacting the Information Desk at 404-365-1000.

St. Anthony's Guild Presents the Capitol City Opera

St. Anthony’s Guild, the elder ministry of the Cathedral, presents the fourth annual performance of the Capitol City Opera at the Cathedral! This year’s presentation is “An Evening with George Gershwin.” Join us Thursday, September 24 in Child Hall for dessert, coffee, and great entertainment. Coffee and desserts will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the musical presentation will start at 7 p.m. All parishioners and friends are invited to join us for this wonderful opportunity to enjoy good food, great fellowship, and fabulous music.
