Christmas Pageant Sign-Ups

It is time to sign up for the Christmas Pageant, held every year at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve. All children registered in Sunday School, from the 4-year-olds through fifth grade, are welcome to participate. If your child is not registered for Sunday School, please contact Lisa McNamara or register online. A pageant sign-up table will be in the Atrium on Sundays, November 19 and December 3. All casting will be complete by December 10. Dress rehearsal will be Sunday, December 17 at 12:45 p.m. If you have any questions, contact Sara Chapman. The Christmas Pageant is a tradition not to be missed!

Emma's Closet

Children’s Ministries is collecting new or gently used coats and shoes for children in assorted sizes. They will be used at a store during the Homeless Requiem. There will be no charge to the children of homeless parents, but they can experience the fun of selecting the coat and shoes they like best for the cooler season approaching. Emma Ellis began this project at last year’s Homeless Requiem and we want to carry on this beautiful idea. For more information, contact Lisa McNamara, lmcnamara@stphilipscathedral.org

Children’s Chapel is Back!

Children’s chapel takes place during the 8:45 a.m. service as an option for parents and children who are not yet ready to experience the full liturgy together, though children are always welcome in “big” church. Children three years through third grade begin in church with their parents, then follow the children’s acolytes and leaders out at the sequence hymn.Children will rejoin their parents at the Offertory.  Two-year-olds attend their own chapel service, which begins at 8:45 a.m. Parents who would like their children two years old and younger to join them for communion may go pick them up from Room 227 at the Peace.

Reimagining Charity and Service

Our adult series will explore the concepts of charity, service, and poverty; consider new paradigms relating to charity; and invite reflection on our own practices relating to these areas: what seems to be working, what doesn’t, and where do we go from here? The series will be led by Canon Cathy Zappa and others, with a special presentation on March 19 by Shawn Duncan. Shawn is a teacher, preacher, and community organizer, and is the director of training and education at Focused Community Strategies (FCS), an organization with almost 40 years of experience transforming underserved neighborhoods in Atlanta.

Opportunity To Attend Camp This Summer

This summer the Cathedral children’s program is sending ten rising sixth graders to Camp Mikell for a week. The idea is to build relationships in our various communities of children. The camp is funded through a special scholarship and six students will come from our Godly Play program or from the Cathedral’s Hispanic community, and the other four will be students in our La Amistad program. We are looking for children who will be great ambassadors of the Cathedral, embodying our values of grace, excellence and hospitality.
