Choirs at the Cathedral
The Cathedral of St. Philip has a comprehensive sacred choral music ministry, offering music that ranges from plainchant, European Continent masterworks, and the Anglican tradition, to African-American Spirituals and premières by living American composers.
50 volunteer singers, 35 choristers (children), several volunteer Mikell Chapel organists, together with 12 staff singers, the Assistant Organist-Choirmaster, Associate Organist-Choirmaster, and Canon for Music provide music for more than 300 regularly scheduled Cathedral liturgies each year, as well as approximately 75 weddings and funerals.

Our choral program for children beginning in the third grade, for boys to voice change and for girls through high school. The training scheme is based on that of the Royal School of Church Music, and aims to nurture Christian community and the musical skills necessary to reach the highest levels of excellence in sacred choral performance.
In 2014 we doubled the options for children and youth to participate in the Chorister program by adding Monday rehearsal times to the continuing Wednesday rehearsals. It is possible for children to participate in Choristers on either or both days. Chorister rehearsals for the coming season will begin on Wednesday, August 30 and Monday, August 28, 2017.
