Worship

Worship is at the center of the Church's life.Procession in nave

Here at the Cathedral of St. Philip we offer a rich and varied schedule of liturgies.

On Sundays from September through May, we offer eight services of worship, including six celebrations of the Holy Eucharist in English, one in Spanish, and Evensong. We gather to pray at daily morning and evening prayer in Mikell Chapel, Monday through Friday, and celebrate the Holy Eucharist in St. Mary's Chapel at 12:15 p.m. Morning prayer also occurs on Saturdays.

In addition, we offer a Taizé service on the third Monday of the month at 8 p.m. and the sacrament of reconciliation. At least six times a year, we celebrate Holy Baptism and offer special liturgies during Holy Week and Easter. As the Cathedral parish, we also host Diocesan Confirmations, Ordinations, and other Diocesan services that the Bishop requests.

Unless otherwise noted, each Sunday service of worship at the Cathedral includes the "Holy Eucharist" ("Communion" or "The Lord's Supper") -- the principal act of worship on the Lord's Day. This structure of Word and Sacrament always features both a sermon and an opportunity for the faithful to receive Christ.
