Adult Education

Sundays and During the Week

Join a Sunday School class and discover a way of deepening your faith while defining relationships. On Sunday mornings, an array of adult Christian education classes, taught by Cathedral clergy, staff, lay members and guests from the community, are offered from 10:10-11:05 a.m. Please contact Canon George Maxwell, 404-365-1088, if you have questions about Adult Education.

The schedule for February 5:

The Dean’s Forum (Child Hall)

Join Sam Candler, the Dean of the Cathedral, as he presents contemporary issues of faith and life, and leads discussion.  Dean Candler will present "What is Eucharist?" at the Dean's Forum this Sunday, February 5.

Listen to Dean's Forum podcasts.

Old Fashioned Sunday School (Room 382)

Livin’ the Dream: The Life of the Baptized. How do we continue in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of the bread, and in the prayers? Canon George Maxwell, Canon Beth Knowlton and Mack Leath lead this class. On February 5 we consider the question Who is my neighbor? Learn more on the Old Fashioned Sunday School webpage.

Luke/Acts Bible Study (Room 380)

We will be reading the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of Apostles as a whole, as Luke probably wanted Theophilus to read them. The Gospel of Luke is the biography of Jesus, and the Acts of the Apostles is the history of the early church. We will focus on several themes that run through both books: prayer, salvation history, table fellowship, wealth and poverty, women, and discipleship. These two books give us a sweep of the drama of salvation. For more information please contact Gordon Mathis, 404-842-1595 or Jim Bingham, 404-373-3273.

Beginning Biblical Greek (Room 370)

The New Testament Greek class is offered on a drop-in basis at no cost. No previous language expertise is required; every class begins with the Greek alphabet and pronunciation practice. Please contact the Rev. Thee Smith, 404-727-0636. Go to the Greek classes webpage for more information about the Sunday afternoon Greek offerings at the Cathedral.

Beginning Sunday, February 5: Episcopal 101 Confirmation Class (Room 381)

Canon Wallace Marsh and Canon Carolynne Williams will lead the confirmation class for adults who wish to be baptized, confirmed, or received into the Episcopal Church. It will culminate in a Diocesan Confirmation service on Sunday, April 29. We welcome newcomers to the church and invite all members to participate in the class as a “refresher.” Learn more.
